Warrior’s Dance {My time in Ethiopian tribes}

For two and a half months I was able to spend time in Ethiopia. While I was there we took about three or so weeks and went into one of the tribes, who are located in the south of Ethiopia.

These are the Karo people, who are so beautiful and are wonderfully created by God.

With travel time heading down to the tribes was quite a task. It took our team two days, two land cruisers and one monster of a bus, just to get down to the town of Jinka. This is that town a person comes to before they head into the tribal land in Ethiopia.

We traveled in “style” or like every other ferengi traveling through Ethiopia and into the African bush. With my team of twenty-four people, plus four others we made the trip to Jinka, but once there we had to split into small groups to get to the tribes.

The drive there is normally only three days, but by the time I got to the tribes it was four. I had to spend an extra day in Jinka because we only had two land cruisers and twenty-eight people. Oh man!

I was in the tribe for seven nights, some of the longest days and nights of my life. Not really something I care to repeat anytime soon. It was hard, but good.

The Karo are beautiful people, with quite a long heritage in this area of Ethiopia. With two villages that stand along the Omo river, they face many things. Bathing, getting water or fishing there always a chance of a crocodile catching them. They don’t live in fear, they just live.

They harvest the land and produce crops to feed themselves. With the women the ones working in the fields. The men are the warriors, protecting the villages from the crocodiles or sometimes even from other tribes.

My Head Is Spinning

My head is spinning seems to be a common state of mind for me during this phase in my life. I don’t know if I understand everything that has been talked about, but it does seem as though I’m catching some of it. Whenever we are talking about what has been taught on during the lectures, I seem to have been thinking in that manner, if that makes sense.

Right now we don’t have an official speaker, but we have a couple of the base staff people offering up their thoughts and advice. But it’s been fun.

Also along with the lectures we have photography stuff coming out our ears. I have an assignment due this thursday and I don’t have a single print popped out. So tomorrow I live in the darkroom yet again. I ended up living in the darkroom on Sunday and developing a total of six rolls of film… DRIVE me CRAZY!!! It’s okay now, I have pictures that should be working, though they maybe thick, their going to have to work.

Soon up and coming photographs of my life here…

Herrnhut {Once a week}

I’ve come to the conclusion that it would make sense and be a good idea to at least once a week write a entry about my comings and goings of the week. Now that I have been here for over I month I have finally come up with a plan to update everyone on what is going on in my life.

This last week we had a speaker, Rogeria Santos, he has been with YWAM for a while and travels from DTS to DTS teaching and training. During the week he was here he taught us on intercession & spiritual warfare. For me it was interesting and confusing, not at all what I had been expecting. First off he was really very difficult for me to follow, so often I found myself wondering if he had reached a conclusion to whatever he was talking about, finally I came to the point that I realized he taught in circles. Even after realizing that I found it very difficult to keep up with him and find the conclusions to his points. There where many times that I found myself questioning him and what he was teaching, then agreeing and seeing clearly what he was teaching on, I think mostly I was just very confused most of the time and couldn’t find the ending point to certain (most) things.

Next week we will be beginning local outreaches throughout the area, I’m going to be using art reach out the community of Herrnhut. I’m really excited to get to work with this outreach. I know that God placed this outreach on my heart for reason (not the obvious one), and I’m excited to let it grow. This outreach is important to me because I’m actually living in the town of Herrnhut, right off the main street, and I want to be able to use this opportunity God has laid in my lap.

Please pray for me as I’m seeking God on how he desires me to be used in this local outreach, I’m scared and excited all at the same time. Pray that God will really use this DTS to be his arms to the town of Herrnhut. There is tension between the three local ministries in Herrnhut (two churches and the YWAM base) and the staff as a whole desires to see that diminished so that God’s glory can be used by his people to it’s fullest potential. Thanks.

I promise to have some pictures up soon. I am just having a difficult time finding time to get on my computer just to work on them.

YWAM Update

I have now reached $2,515 towards my trip, which puts me close to the total I need before I leave in just a few short weeks. God has been truly faithful and showing me that He is in control and no one else is. As I continue to walk towards where God is leading me, I have to rely on Him and that He knows where every penny is going to come from.

I do want to share a concern of mine that has been building in me over the last month or so. The amount that I must raise for this trip continues to go up as the dollar drops. This concerns me, causing a little bit of anxiety, but at the same time I know that God is going to provide.

At this point I still have between $2,533-$4,237 left to raise. And I won’t know which amount I have left to raise until I’m already there.

Please continue to pray for my financially needs and my sanity, as the day I’m leaving approaches rather rapidly.
